About 33,700 of Ford Motor Co.’s Transit Connect small commercial vans are being recalled due to a defective interior liner that doesn’t meet safety standards for head protection. Meanwhile, Chrysler Group is recalling about 22,000 2010 Jeep Liberty and Wrangler, Dodge Nitro and Ram 1500 trucks over the risk of a brake fluid leak. Ford’s recall covers Transit Connect vehicles sold in the US and manufactured from December 2008 until May 2010. In a letter to Ford dated last Friday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that if the vehicle crashes, the occupant would be at an “increased risk of injury.” Ford responded that it will inform its dealers to halt the delivery of the affected models until revised head protection is installed. Ford also said that it will inform car owners about repairs. Chrysler’s recall, on the other hand, is over the discovery of an improperly formed tube that could cause brake fluid to leak. In a letter that Chrysler sent to regulators, sales of these vehicles, which were built in April and May 2010, will be stopped until the defect is repaired.
