Peugeot planning to bring back the Talbot name

Peugeot seeks to revive the Talbot name as a sub-brand for a lineup of entry-level cars, according to French media publication, La Voz de Galicia.

The report claims that Peugeot plans to build two new Talbot-badged models loosely based on models within its existing range. Peugeot will build these at a sister firm Citroen’s facility in Vigo. Recently, Citroen has had success in bringing back the DS name for a range of more premium cars based on mainstream platforms. Renault has also been successful with its budget Dacia brand, which will arrive in the UK in 2012. It can be recalled that the Talbot name was last used on a road car in 1986. Instead of establishing a completely new brand, Peugeot wants to use a name already familiar to the motoring public. No official statement has come from Peugeot with regards to this report.
