An insider from Toyota revealed plans for three new-to-market green vehicles to be introduced in the first half of 2012. The source said that US dealerships will be getting a battery electric vehicle, a plug-in version of the Prius and a variant of the Prius. The source added that this second Prius vehicle marks the start of the creation of a family of vehicles that will have the Prius badge but will not be a separate brand. Meanwhile, the battery electric vehicle is likely to be similar to the electric version of the iQ, which Toyota revealed at the 2009 Detroit auto show. Toyota is believed to only offer the electric vehicle in markets that have sufficient infrastructure to support the vehicle. Toyota intends to the progress of these markets’ sales and infrastructure on www.toyota.com/esq. The source said as the launch dates near, Toyota will launch a viral marketing campaign on that Web site.
